Every time I go to the mall at Century City, I make it a point to park in those pink “Expectant Mother” spaces.

Fuck that ridiculous policy — fuck any stupid rule enacted by pant-suit wearing corporate trolls, enforced by mouth-breathing mall cops, and obeyed by mini-van driving stepford wives.

If I’m lucky, on my short walk to the escalator I’ll catch a sneer from some cunty nag with a double-wide stroller. Nothing makes me happier than beaming back a curled-up smile that says, “No, I’m not the least bit expectant, and fuck you for asking.”

But today — oh, my — today was delicious. As I hopped out of my car, an angry soccer mom waddled over. She wagged a chubby little finger at me and yelled out, “That spot is for pregnant women only!”

Without missing a beat, I shot back, “My abortion isn’t until this weekend, so fuck off.”

Stopped her dead in her tracks. It was beautiful.

my awesome friend nate and his equally adorable brother adam are starting to make music and it is absolutely worth a listen. their sound is very current but also unique. it makes me feel like i’m on a beach in the middle of a factory (if that makes any sense). it’s their blend of technology with this extremely chill vibe that really stands out. you cannot deny or ignore their use of interesting filters and computer logic and other hip music whatnot, but it doesn’t sound overworked or inorganic. i really dig it and can’t wait to hear more.

i want my life to be a string of moments just like this, every day a new adventure, a new opportunity to witness the brilliant. i want my life to be special, not because i tried so hard, but because i opened my eyes and saw everything beautiful (and ugly) around me. my life doesn’t have to be special to anyone else. no one else need know i was amazing and amazed. it will be enough to know that when i close my eyes that final time, when my life flashes before my eyes, stretching a second into eternity, i’ll smile. even if no one knows why.

i’m a little late to the feist fanbase but better late than never. her voice is so smooth, every note perfectly balanced against interesting and simple accompaniment. when i listen to her, i hear ricki lee jones and st. vincent, cat powers even, and not to sound narcissistic, but i also hear a lot of my myself in her. the breathy emotion, the pops of loud that almost immediately die away in soft trembling vibrato. it’s exactly the kind of music i wish i were still making. i think i’ve found my new obsession.

hey all, sorry i’ve been away so long. life got in the way of tumblr (which is probably a good thing) but i’m going to do the best i can to get back into the swing of things. in the meantime, since google reader got rid of their share option and i’m in no mood to +1 everything, i’ve started a new blog called “A little extra olio”. it’s basically all the crap that fills my brain and diverts my attention away from real world things like “the news” and “cleaning my apartment”. anyway, check it out, hope you enjoy it.
